EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND JOB RESOURCES
ON THE INTERNET
version 3
updated 5/4/94
updates done as needed
keywords: employment opportunities, job resources, job listings,
resume postings.
All of these services are available through the Internet. You will
need a full Internet account (telnet and ftp, not just mail) to access
some of these services. At this time, all of these services are
offered to the user at no charge; however, there might be employment
services/job listings available on the Internet which do charge a fee.
This is by no means a full and comprehensive list. If you find a new
list or service that you think should be included, please send the name
and access information (telnet, usenet, gopher, etc.) and Internet
address to

I. USENET JOB LISTINGS
Access these lists through the usenet news reading system. Contact
your local system administrator about access to the Usenet and what
news readers you have available to you. Also, not every site carries
all of these groups. Again, contact your local system administrator if
you see something here you do not have locally.
Before posting to any group, read the news generated there for a few
days so you can get a feel for the group. Improper postings can invoke
much e-mail being sent to you with comments.

II. SERVICES VIA TELNET
CAREER CONNECTION'S ON-LINE INFORMATION SYSTEM (H.E.A.R.T)
telnet career.com or telnet 157.151.160.1
(CAREER CONNECTIONS) H.E.A.R.T., "Human resources Electronic
Advertising & Recruiting Tool," is a menu driven system with
presentations of career opportunities.
There is no charge to the job seeker at this time. This system is
supported by the member companies so they may reach the most qualified
candidates for their advertised positions.
You can search for positions by geographic location or job title, and
you can apply for jobs through this system. In order to do this, you
must create a "profile," so it's best to have a copy of your resume at
hand when you begin looking here.
-------------------------------
III. SERVICES VIA GOPHER
All of these services can be accessed through GOPHER, a menu-driven
worldwide system of university and organization information systems.
You can connect to gopher either through your local gopher server or by
telnetting to a public gopher site.
seymour.md.gov login:gopher
cat.ohiolink.edu login:gopher
scilibx.ucsc.edu login:INFOSLUG
Once you are connected, select the menu entry Other Gophers or
something similar to this, followed by All the Gopher Servers in the
World. If you have a local gopher server on your system, you can try
connecting directly to a gopher site by typing gopher node.domain where
node.domain is the Internet address of the gopher you want to access.
ACADEME THIS WEEK (THE CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION)
The Jobs Listings from the current edition of The Chronicle of Higher
Education are listed here on the day of publication. Position
listings can be searched by geographic location, the Chronicle's list
of job terms, or by keywords of your own choosing.
This is the best source for positions with colleges and universities in
the U.S., and many international institutions and research companies
list positions here also.

ACADEMIC POSITION NETWORK (APN)
The Academic Position Network (APN) is an on-line position announcement
service. Announcements include faculty, administration and staff
positions as well as announcements for graduate assistant and
fellowship positions. The announcement remains on the network until
removal instructions are received from the placing institution. All
entries represent positions where searches are currently in process.
The APN files may be browsed as they are organized: by country, state,
or institution. The entire text may be searched using a word or
combination of words separated by "and" or "or." There is no charge to
browse or search the APN files by authorized Internet educational
users.

ONLINE CAREER CENTER (MSEN INC.)
OCC is organized and operated exclusively for not-for-profit purposes.
Organizations pay a membership fee to join this service for the purpose
of recruiting new employees. Eligible members include industrial,
corporate, institutional, health care, governmental and educational
organizations. No third-party recruiters are permitted on this
service, so blind listings to an OCC box are valid listings for member
organizations. This service also includes the postings from the Help
Wanted USA database which can be found on America Online.
gopher msen.com
Msen Inc/
Online Career Center/
You may, at no cost, enter your full-text resume into the OCC Internet
database via email. The OCC online keyword searchable database is
available to all employers who have Internet access. There are no
charges for employers to access your resume, and no charge to you if
you enter your own resume online. If you post your resume by 5:00
p.m. EST, you many see it in the OCC database after 7:00 a.m. EST the
following day.
Email your resume to: occ-resumes@msen.com
Your resume must be in ASCII format. The email SUBJECT: line serves
as your resume title and will be the first information seen by employers
when viewing your resume.
Your resume will stay in the OCC database for 90 days. To extend your
resume beyond 90 days, you may re-enter it at any time. Each email
account number is permitted only one resume at any given time.
Therefore, the most recent resume uploaded will be displayed. To
change or update your resume, simply re-enter it, and the previous one
will disappear.
If you do not have Internet access, you may mail your typed resume
(cover letter optional) to:
ONLINE RESUME SERVICE
1713 Hemlock Lane
Plainfield, IN 46168
Your resume will be processed (see fee schedule below) and entered
online into the OCC resume database for ninety (90) days. Each resume
submitted to this service must contain a title line not to exceed 45
spaces.
Ex: "Chemical Engr/5 Yrs Exp/Oil Industry-NY"
